Product variants

What are variants?

A product can be available on the store in different presentations, for example, in different sizes or colours. These different choices are called variants.

When adding a product with variants, you must type a variant name (i.e. Size) and the choices (i.e. Small, Medium, Large). When your client sees your product he will see the 3 size options.

If additionally you have added Colour as a variant name, then the user will be presented with 9 options (3 sizes x 3 colours= 9 options).

The maximum number of options you can present for a product are 200.

Adding a product with variants

The option to add a variant won't be presented until you add the basic information for your product.

Creating the variants

After saving the basic information for your product, scroll down and click on the Add product variants button.

Adding option names and choices

Type an option name (i.e. Size) and the choices for that option (i.e. Small, Medium, Large). After typing each one of the choices hit enter to add the choice, once it's added the background for that choice will turn black as you can see on the image above.

When you finish adding choices you can click on the Save button.

The variants will be presented on a table.

Add more variants

If you want to add more variants for a product click on the Add/Remove options & choices button below the table on the product settings.

Click on the Add another option button

You will see this warning. Click on the Add option button. Adding a new variant will set a new table for your product.

NOTE: Whatever changes you have made before to the table (setting product visibility, stock, price, weight) will be reset if you chose to add a new variation. For example, if you changed the weight for the different sizes, once you add a new variant, all the sizes will have the same weight again.

Add a new Option Name and its Choices, then click on the Save button.

As we have added a new variant we have now 9 options for this product. The number of options can never be more than 200.

Editing your product variants

 Click on the Edit variants button.

 While editing your variants you will see these options:

1. Price. Change the price of the variant if, for example, one colour is more expensive than other
2. Weight. Change the weight for smaller or larger products.
3. Stock. Add the stock you have on each product choice (This column will only show if you have previously chosen to keep track of your inventory).
4. Visibility. Change the visibility of your variants if, for example, the product is not available at the moment.

Click on Save (5) when you finish making changes.

Visibility

When you set off the visibility for one variant you will see it grayed out on your table. You can make it visible again whenever you want to.

Reorder dropdown values

The product choices are presented on a drop down menu on your product page.

If you wish to change the order in which the choices are presented you need to go to your product variants and click on the Reorder dropdown values button located at the bottom of the variants table.

Drag and drop the values up or down to rearrange them. The value at the top will be the one selected as default when someone goes into the single product view.
